Abstract
Distance and jurisdiction. From the præfectus urbi to the “eparch” of the City (of Constantinople), some brief historical-legal notes.
Distance and jurisdiction have always been connected. This article aims to highlight how the Roman legal experience had already raised this issue, with particular reference to the præfectus urbi who in Constantinople assumes, as “eparch” (ἔπαρχος), even greater importance as an institution of judicial administration and not only.
